Founded in an era when the world was young, Tristram grew as a settlement for those seeking safety from the wilderness. Its architecture reflects a simple, medieval style, with stone cottages and wooden structures clustered around a central square. For generations, it remained relatively untouched by the great wars that ravaged other parts of Sanctuary, shielded by the vigilance of local scholars. However, the village's proximity to the Great Cathedral made it a focal point for infernal corruption. When the seal on Diablo weakened, the darkness seeped upward through the cracks in the earth. The town witnessed the loyalty of its blacksmith, who remained steadfast until his death and subsequent resurrection as an undead, and the witch Adria, who was canonically aligned with evil forces rather than a victim of any curse. These events signaled the breaking of an ancient containment rather than the beginning of a new war; the Horadrim had already fought and sealed the Prime Evils long before these tragic occurrences. Throughout history, Tristram has been destroyed once at the end of Diablo I, remained in ruins until the events of Diablo III, and then was destroyed again in Diablo III.
